Environment Accelerator Fund - Our Vision

Our San Diego environment is still beautiful on the surface, but experts agree that our land, air, water, and communities are under threat.
Our population has grown rapidly, and will grow by another million people in 20 years.
Toxic streams, polluted beaches, loss of habitat, massive transportation issues, insufficient fresh water, increasing air pollution are a big contribution to global warming.
Skilled environmental groups have been working on fixes for years.
They need our support to grow – in money, in expertise, in networking, and in leadership.

Our Vision for San Diego by the year 2018 is:

.We emerge as a national leader in combining prosperity with the long-term sustainability of our environment
• We facilitate funding to environmental groups at four times present levels
• We strongly support environment-friendly policies at the local government level, reflecting in government spending and regulatory policy
• We never be thought of as a “paradise lost”
• We help train the next generation of environmental leaders through our local colleges and universities
• We become recognized as an exceptionally good place to run an environment-friendly business
• We enjoy beaches that will rarely be closed for pollution, sparking continued growth in tourism on the order of 25% plus over current levels
• We have added half a million new residents but destroyed very little natural habitat
• We have land use standards that minimize pollution and traffic, and maximize the creation of strong communities

. We support a viable real estate market with strong values
• We maintain an average commute time equal to present levels
• We reduce days of smog or notable air pollution by 25%
• We provide easy access to nature for most children in the county
• We utilize vehicles, buildings, factories, and power plants that are more environment-friendly than the average North American city
